Ohio Valley Electric Corporation

The Ohio Valley Electric Corporation (OVEC) owns two coal plants, one in Indiana and another in Ohio. OVEC is owned by utilities that include American Electric Power (AEP), AES Corporation, Buckeye Power,, Duke Energy, FirstEnergy, PPL Corporation , and Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative. OVEC’s coal plants have been subsidized by ratepayers in several states. In 2025, Ohio lawmakers voted to repeal a ratepayer bailout of the OVEC coal plants that was included in the bribery-tainted House Bill 6.
